5Bike Bling
By petersg
I bought the MAC 4 into 2 exhaust from Amazon for my 1980 XS1100G.

1) The price was actually less expensive than having my old exhaust re-chromed (and the chrome place did a terrible job on the stuff I actually had them re-chrome), so buying new was more economical than re-chroming.

2) The new exhaust is a bit quieter than the old exhaust, which I like. The pipes aren't too loud, but the bike still sounds a bit aggressive when you crack the throttle.

3) The pipes look great. The only criticism I can make is that there's a little collar area where the flanges for the headers are that didn't get complete chrome coverage.

4) From a performance stand point, the new exhaust seems to give the bike a little bit more torque on the low end, I haven't noticed any loss at the high end yet.

5) There is no cross over, easier maintenance, probably worse top end performance.

6) Installation was not difficult, but I had to fuss with the bike and exhaust to get everything tucked into it's proper place.
A) The mounting brackets don't have enough offset to get the exhaust where the stock exhaust fit, so I had to use a couple 12mm bolts as spacers to get everything in the right place. The brackets can be turned around and that makes the offset issue even worse, so make sure you get the offset going the right way.
B) I had to cut off the extra portion of the center stand bolt that stuck out past the nut to get enough clearance under the foot peg.
C) the header flange that goes into the head seems to be taller than the old exhaust, so the mounting bolts only engage a few threads of the studs. Changing the gaskets to something thinner, or getting longer studs may be needed for installation.
D) The little "L" shaped bracket they send in the package is the center stand stop, you'll need to figure out the best place to install that too.
